The Governor-General (Sir Charles Fergueson) will pay an official visit to New Plymouth from September 14 to September 17. • The death occurred at Wellington yesterday afternoon of Mr Alfred Jolly, general manager of the Nationalßank of New Zealand.

Mr Walter Smith, one of New. Plymouth’s oldest residents, passed'away at 244 Devon Street, New Plymouth, oh Sunday at the age of 70 years. He was born in the Isle of Man, England, in 1855, and came to NeNv Zealand GO years ago. He lived in the. Waikato for ten years and lias resided in New Plymouth 50 years. When quite a young fellow he fought in the Maori war with the mounted men.

At a meeting of the directors of the Ivaponga Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., held yesterday subsequent to the annual general meeting, Air A. V. Tait was re-elected as chairman. During the general meeting a vote of thanks iu appreciation of the services rendered by Air Tait, who has been a member of the directorate for 18 years, during six of which he has officiated as chairman, was moved by Mr M. F. Voullaire and carried by acclamation.

At yesterday’s annual meeting of the Kaponga Co-operative Dairy Co. a vote of thanks to the company’s staff was carried by acclamation, on the motion of the chairman (Mr A. V. Tait). In proposing the motion the chairman commended the staff members on their eo-operatidn in the discharge of their duties, and paid special tribute to the services rendered by the general manager (Mr W. C. Hislop) and the secretary (Mr R. G. Cook), each of whom in his respective sphere had given loyal and efficient attention to the interests of the company.
