STIEIRaEY’S PROTEST.' LOiNDOiN, Aug. 11. Residente of Stepney made a demonstration. at the Ministry of Health’s inquiry, held: at the Limebouse Town Hall, against the .proposal to demolish the houses over a large area and to substitute ten-storeyed buildings ‘costing from £300,000 to £400,000 and accommodating 3000 people. The Town Clerk pointed out that 2+15 people were crowded in slum dwellings, 1.75 being the average to every room. 'Shouts of “Liar!” greeted the medical officer's statement that the houses were insanitary. He added that moist of the tenants (should prefer that modern buildings should replace the present hovels.
ISiueh ai pandemonium broke out that the inquiry was adjourned.
