JAPANESE VESSEL NEEDS HELP. CHINESE PASSENGERS. RELIEF BEING SENT. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPY RIGHT (Received Aug. 25. 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 25. A wireless message received in Sydney from Rabaul stated that the Japanese steamer Sydney Maru, bound from Australia to Japan, is ashore on Mait Island, and in need of assistance. Details are meagre. The vessel carried a number of Chinese passengers. It is known that the steamers Eudunda and Mataram are in the vicinity, and thev will be able to render aid.
