COMMONWEALTH TAKING ACTION. BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. MELBOURNE, Aug. 24. After a meeting of the Federal Oabi. net, the Ffederat Executive Council issued a proclamation under the deportation provisions of the Immigration Act, which was recently passed, declaring that a state of serious industrial disturbance, prejudicial to order and seriously threatening the peace and good government of the Commonwealth, exists. This action is a preliminary to the enforcement of the powers under the Act to summon before a tribunal to be appointed those persons whom it may be considered necessary to show cause why they should not be deported for the preservation of industrial peace in the Commonwealth. The proclamation empowers the Federal Government to deport any person whom it decides is agitating an industrial disturbance.

PROVISIONS OF THE ACT. (Received Aug. 25, 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Aug. 25. The Deportation Act provides that the tribunal set up to consider the deportation of, any person shall consist of three members, the chairman of which must be a person who holds or has held the office of a judge, a stipendiary or a special magistrate. If the person, summoned, who must have been born in Australia, fails to appear in the specified time, or if the board recommends that he be deported, the Minister is empowered to make an order for deportation. After that the person may he kept in custody pending his departure. The owners of any vessel may he called upon to take a deportee hack to the country whence he came.
