GOOD RELATIONS.
NEW ZEALAND AND AMERICAN SAILORS. (By Telegraph.—Special to Star.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 26. Commencing with the thoughtful action of the New Zealand naval commander in sending a detachment .of British bluejackets to assist in berthing the American flagship, the relations between the sailors of the two services have been of the pleasantest character. There were malicious rumours to the contrary published in a small journal, but they were immediately repudiated. An exceedingly pleasant feature of the Wellington hospitality to the naval visitors has been the part played- by the officers and men of the New Zealand; flagship Dunedin, which was berthed at the same wharf as the U.S. hospital ship Relief. Several of the crew, of the Relief from time to time spent the night aboard the Dunedin, enjoying the hospitality of the British navy, and returned aboard their own ship in the early morning to report for duty. The' friendship between the navy men culminated in a celebration in the shape of a smoke concert, given by the Dunedin to the Americans in oiie of the Harbour Board’s sheds, with an ample store of refreshments. Music. . al and other items of entertain- y* ment were given by the men of both .*■ fleets, and a most enjoyable evening * was snent. The navy men sneak in the highest terms of each other, and when the American hospital ship Relief left Clyde Quay she was farewelletl 'by the men of the Dunedin with the heartiest, of cheers.
