ROAD BLOCKED.

INTOXICATED LORRY DRIVERS. HEAVY FINES IMPOSED. <UY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. Early last evening motor traffic in the Ngahnuranga Gorge was blocked for a time by three large motor lorries which were proceeding from Wellington to Palmert-son North. Complaint was made, and the constable at Johnsonville, who, on arrival at the lorries, arrested Stephen Havell, Kenneth Havell and Johnston Walton, the drivers, who were intoxicated. At the Police Court this morning, the magistrate, Mr RiddelJ, said that these matters could not be overlooked, and that the penalty would have to be increased, as cases of this kind were comntc before the court every day. For drunkennss, he fined Stephen Havell and Walton £2O each, and sentenced Kenneth Have'l to seven days’ imprisonment. On charges of assaulting the constable he fined each defendant £3. Kenneth Havell’s . license was suspended for three months, and the others for one month.
