MACMILLAN EXPEDITION.

BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS

UPSETS ALL PLANS

TRIBUTE TO THE PERSONNEL. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT, Received Aug. 20, 2.20 p.m. MONTREAL, Aug. 19. MacMillan’s message describing the handicaps imposed by the weather pointed out: “We have bee n here at Etah for 18 days. Two depots, have been established, only 90 miles from the ship’s base. We have one thousand miles to go, in addition, . to establish another advance station. Since this must be done in ten days, we are now trying to do what is impossible this season, defeating all the other objects of the expedition.” MacMillan paid a high tribute to Lieutenant Byrd and the entire navy personnel for their excellent work in face of insurmountable difficulties. — Aus.-N.Z.
