OVER NAVAL APPROPRIATIONS
LARGER VOTE WANTED
APPEAL TO U.S. PRESIDENT,
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION -COPY HIGH'.' Received Aug. 20, 10.55 p.m. WASHINGTON, Aug. 19. The Budget battle between th© Director (Mr. Lord) and the Navy Department is so strenuous that Mr. Wilbur, the Secretary to the Navy, has decided to personally proceed to Swampscott to make an appeal to President Coolidge for iarger appropriations. It is understood that be will go this week. .Mr. Wilbur has just returned from an inspection cruise of the Pacific Coast, and gathered unanimously adverse views from naval men regarding the proposed cut in appropriations. It is understood that Mr. Wilbur will not only object to the reductions, but will urge the necessity for specific increases, including more money for the personnel, bringing the man-power to 85,000, and for six new cruisers, also for increased expenditure on the Pacific Coast naval bases and at Ha-waii.-—Aus.-N.Z. .Cable Assn.
