VISIT TO ARGENTINE
WELCOMED AT BUENOS AYRES
A lIEARTY RECEPTION. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPY RIG Hi BUENOS AYRES, Aug. 17. A noisy welcome, greeted the Prince of Wales on his arrival this afternoon on a State visit to the Argentine. The Prince, in the uniform of the Welsh Guards, came ashore as the guns oi the Argentine warships boomed a salute, and whistles of scores of vessels in the harbour went into action. The Prince was met by the President (Dr, Mai'eelo de Alvear) and members of the Cabinet. Great crowds gave the Prince an ovation, and airplanes circled over the city. As the Prince drove with the president to Government House every point of vantage was occupied. After a brief reception at Government House the Prince’s second, appearance On the way to his official residence assumed even greater proportions. Squads of mounted police were taxed to the uttermost in handling the crowds. Flowers were thrown from balconies on the carriages as he passed, making a brilliant display. Til© weather was ideal and there were multi-coloured decorations. The President, in his welcome speech to the Prince of Wales, said the visit of the Prince signalised the culminating moment in the life relations of the Argentine Republic and the British Empii-e. He saw in the visit of the print© a wonderful opportunity to tighten Anglo-Argentine amity. The Prince finished his first day's stay here by attending a gala banquet at tlie palace, at which the officialdom of Argentina and diplomatic representatives of all nations in Buenos Ayres were present.
