Tariff Bill had a stormy passage in the Reichstag, Socialists organising a continuous pandemonium. The Chancellor explained that a high tariff was vital to the preservation of Germanv’s industry. High tariffs must be fought by high tariffs. Heavy duties would be valuable for the purpose of negotiating trade agreements Avith other nations. He only succeeded in his explanation bv using his hands like a megaphone, because the Socialists had mustered at the tribune, hurling insults at him.
L The Deputy-Speaker ordered one after 'another to quit the Chamber, but they refused till they were ejected by the Prussian police. There Avas great violence Avhen four were named simultaneously. Seventeen police entered, whereupon the entire party satirically “goose-stepped” from the Chamber.—Times.
