THE WORLD’S MISSIONARIES.
The Protestant churches of the world are to-day giving three times what they did 25 years ago to foreign missions. These are some of the facts in a new book just published. It shows on its map where all the 29,188 missionaries are working in Africa, India, China, the South Seas and elsewhere. More than half of these are women; 1157 are doctors.
The missionaries are preaching the gospel of the healing of bodies as well as of soitls through 858 mission hospitals and 1686 dispensaries, while they are educating the minds of nearly two hundred children through 44,885 schools.
All this is being (lone with the £15,000,000 n year which is being raised in Britain, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, America, Sweden, Denmark,’ Germany, Prance, and Switzerland bv the Pro-' testant. churches there. It costs to spread the Gospel of. Peace just about ■what more than one of these countries is ready to spend in a year on the making of two battleships.
