A BIG VICTORY.
PREDICTED FOR UNIONISM. DEVELOPMENT OF INDUSTRIALISM. 8Y CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Aug. 1, 12.10 p.m.) LONDON, July 31. To-day’s proceedings at the Dominions Labour Conference were opened by Mr Purcel, who declared that the majority of trade unionists were optimistic concerning- the industrial position. He viewed with extreme satisfaction the present developments and considered that it was a good thing the conference was meeting at a time when they were on the threshold’ of one of the biggest victories in trade unionism in the past twenty-five years. Referring to the development of industrialism in the Empire, Mr Purcel declared that Britishers employed antiquated machinery and sent modern plant to the Dominions. He described the Empire as a huge slave plantation of the British capitalist class, which was stifling with fat and failing to function. —Reuter.
