The Minister for Trade and Customs (Mr, Pratten) states that during the 1924-20 season 65,(XX) tons of butter were ship tied, constituting a record. He expressed great satisfaction that during the year th e price realised had equalled that of the New Zealand product, for the first- time.
BASIC WAGE INCREASED
Received July 31, 10.40 a.m ADELAIDE, July 31. The Board of Industry has raised the basic wage for adult males in metropolitan areas from 13s Bd, at which it has stood since April, 1924, to 14s 3d per day.
FORTY-FOUR HOURS WEEK

The State Premier (Mr. Allen) is opposed to Mr. Lang’s proposal for the adoption of a forty-four hours week throughout the Commonwealth. He declared that anyone who would not work forty-eight hours did not want to work. Australia could not compete with other countries if she did not devote the same hours to industry. Forty-eight hours w£s a fair thing, and th e cost of manufacture on that basis was high enough.
