ALPINE PEASANTS IN DANGER
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT LONDON, July 27. The Geneva correspondent of the Daily Express says that great crevasses are appearing on the Italian side of the Matterhorn. Boulders aie tumbling down and are threatening to engulf the villages and hamlets. The danger has been increasing for a month, until the authorities ordered a- dozen villages to be evacuated. Troops were sent to force the. villagers to leave, as they declared that they preferred to die in their homes. The recent heavy rains are the eaus e of the landslide.
