HAWERA HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY: MEETING. At the ordinary meeting of the Hawera, Hospital Board to-day there we re pr ese n t Messrs. K. Gillia n tiers (chair), J. J. Mel don, A. L. Campbell, A. T. Wills, A, La room, E. A. Washer, E. J. Gifford, and G. W. Tayler. The secretary (Mr. C. MV Haggetlt) was also in attendance. REPORTS. Tho medical superintendent (Dr. Thomson) reported l that patients in hospital at May 31 were 4(3, admitted during Juno 4G, discharged 51, died 3 leaving 38 at June 30. The daily average of occupied beds was 42.3 —for three months of 1925 42 a<s against 58 for same period last year.. The number of operations- was 34 and consultations In the X-ray department there were 33 cases, of which thirteen were hospital cases and twenty private cases. One ease had three exposures, 1/ two exposures, -and 14 one exposure. Eleven patients were receiving massage at May 31, new patients 12, discharged 12 and number' still receiving treatment 11. Treatments during the month 207, average 8.2 per day, wand diiartliermy patients 35. MATRON’S REPORT.
The matron (Miss R. Lockheed) reported as follows: —Senior and junior lectures were given, by Drs. Thomson and Stokes and examinations held. Nurse Washer lias returned fronii sick leave and Nurse McCarty isi recommended for holiday leave. Nurses Faragher, Praffitt; _ Sage and Carmichael, having finished three years-’ training, have resigned from the .staff . Nurse Sturrock lias been recommended by Dr. Thomson for re-admission and Sister Bretherton has recovered and returned to duty. The matron returned sincere thanks to the board for its consideration in allowing the sick leave as reeomraended by Dr. MeCaw.
OLD PEOPLE’S HOME. Mrs. M. Laing (matron) reported that there were now eleven men in tho home and that they were keeping as well as could, be expected, the bad weather being very much against them. During the month services were held by the Salvation Army. Oakes and jellies from the Women’s National Reserve were acknowledged with thanks. Donations were received from Mrs. King, George Street-, twelve volumes of Illustrated London Press, Auckland Weekly News from Mrs.. Travis and papers from Mr. Coutts. All were very welcome. THE FARM. The manager reported as follows: Milk supplied to -hospital 327 gallons; to Old People’s Home, 41 gallons; bacon supplied to hospital, 2421 b s .and to liome 541ibs. A double set of tripod harrows have been purchased in place of .single chain harrows, which were not sufficiently heavy. It was agreed that a pedigree sow be purchased for the farm. FINANCE COMMITTEE.
The committee reported that Mr Anderson, of the Health Department, in conferring with Messrs Duffill and Gibson, recommended that , the board instal hot- water radiators, the water to be heated by steam supplied from boilers situated cn laundry block. He there was no engineering difficulties.' The Department is to be asked to allow its experts to draw ulans and specifications and to inspect work during installation. The inspecting accountant of the department waited on the committee and discussed matters relating to the accountancy side of the administration of the board. The application of Miss M. King for position of junior clerk was unproved," subject to the approval of chairman and secretary. ARCHITECTS REPORT ON NEW HOSPITAL. Messrs Duffill and Gibso n reported that good progress had been made with the works, and materials were well ip to specified standards. A progress oayment of £4177 had been made, making the total to date £24,980. The necessary plans for heating, etc., had been prepared to enable the Departmental officers to prepare specifications. A design has been prepared for foundation stone, and Mr Duffill would report on the matter td the board. In regard to the water service to the laundry, several methods of improvement were discussed with the borough engineer, and it was decided to take a new l.jin. supply from the main direct to the laundry. The supply is now adequate, and the service i s much improved.
