AMERICAN FLEET.
MUSIC IN THE AIR. (By radio- from Battleship Seattle. Special representative of the Australian Press Association.) - AT SEA, July 16. The ships’ bauds throughout the fleet since leaving Honolulu have been playing a great deal of music by Australian composers. The Seattle's luncheon and dinner musical iprogrammes usually include one Australian number. There have been received copies, of at least five songs composed in Australia in honour of the visit of the fleet, and they have -been distributed among the vessels. Considerable amusement was caused by one •song, the music whereof was the tune of an American sectional song, which, while popular in certain parts of the United States, was highly--disliked in others, and since the fleet’s personnel, is composed of men from all sections of the United States it could hardly be said that this -particular Australian effort would meet with any considerable success. Admiral Coontz’s personal orchestra, is known for its excellent music, and was much in demand in San Francisco and Honolulu for dance 'parties. There is also a jazz hand aboard the. ship, and it has been -assiduously practising during the voyage and will per form 1 in Australia.
Shortly before noon yesterday we ran into a- heavy rain storm Which, broke up manoeuvres and gun pointing practice. Strong winds continued throughout the day and night, bub the heavy rain seemed to flatten , out the sed- land we rode through the storm with 'little difficulty, its only inconvenience being the postponement of the deck -sports, the movies and confinement below. The weather to-day is splendid, the sun is brilliant, with smooth sea-s and cool winds. The nosition is 25.13 •south and 175.3 east, 1755 miles from Port Thillij> entrance.
