The final trials have been made of the Northern Wairoa bridge spanning the Wairoa river. A’ 12-ton traction engine was driven the full length of the bridge. The engine also stood on the lilt span opening, the- whole test showing that there was not the least vibration and evervthingr was satisfactory. Ihe hit span, which is in two parts weighing 9Q tons in. all, was lowered and raised in a minute and a half and worked beautifully. A reminder is given of the benefit hall being given to the relatives or the iate Fireman Hart under the allspices of the Kaponga. Fire Brgiade, in the Kaponga Town Hall this evening. In the preparatory arrangements the brioadesmen have been assisted by a committee of local ladies experienced m such functions, and who have generouslv undertaken to supply the supper. A big attendance is expected, and tho s e who anticipate being present may look forward to an enjoyable entertainment, and will also have the satisfaction of knowing they will be giving .support in a worthy cause.
