A traffic* comedy was disclosed in the prosecution in Paris of a mother and her son, who were charged with destroying’ the will of the latter’s wife Frnvsee, a cattle dealer, and his mother, went to th e notary’s office to learn the terms of his wife’s will. They were astonished to find that it contained a clause disinheriting Fraysee. In an angry scene the mother suddenly snatched the will from the notary .ancl gave it to her son, who crumpled it up. put it in his mouth, and swallowed it before the astonished lawyer was able to prevent him. Fraysee and his mother were both availed. New Zealand Free Lance is to be eongratiifated on Us twenty-fifth birthday, marking the termination of a quarter of a century’s successful. publication. The silver jubilee of the journal is fittingly celebrated by the issue of a special number, and the reproduction in. miniature form of the first copy brought out in July. 1900. A special feature of the jubilee issue is «i series' of cartoons that; have appeared' in: Free Lance during various stages of the past twenty-five years. The drawings are typical of the bright work that has always characterised the publication, and deal in a spirit of pleasant satire with events ‘ and personages of the day.
