A London cable message states that the late Lord Milner left an estate valued at £45,808. Commenting on the proposal to bring 400 immigrants yearly to New Zealand under the auspices of the Church of England, Archbishop Averill said at an 'Auckland meeting of the C.E.M.S that the English authorities were prepared to contribute £4OO towards the establishment of the schem e here. They hoped to send 200 to the North Island and 200 to the South Island each year They appeared specially keen on sending children to th e Dominions. Some people, said the Archbishop, particularly in the farming districts, would be glad to get the young people, but they would simply make slaves of them. Many difficulties presented themselves and he felt rather staggered at the thought that the Church should undertake to introduce such numbers at the present time.
