SOLAR OBSERVATION.

The Navy Department is preparing to send an expedition to Sumatra to observe the solar eclipse visible there on January 14. The expedition, which will sail from San Francisco on September 1, wil) include astronomers from the naval observatory at Washington end the Mount NY i 1 son observatory, California. Three tons of equipment is already on route to San Francisco. A cinema film of the cc’ipse and the activities of the expedition will bo made. The vessel will be sent to conduct radio experiments. A collection of zoological speciments for the nat’iona] museum is also projected.
