MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ACCIDENT TO MOTOR CYCLIST. A serious accident happened at Mauaia on Saturday afternoon, when Michael Kelly, a young man employed on the Opunake-Kapuni railway line construction, was riding a motor-cycle on his way to Hawera. While travelling through Manaia a dog ran out at tlie motor-cycle, and the rider in trying to evade the animal lost control of his machine, and he was thrown with great force on the road. He was quickly picked up and brought into Mr, Riley’s shop, where it was seen that Mr. Kelly was in a very serious condition. He was taken in an unconscious condition to the Manaia private hospital, where he now lies in a critical state. The rider was travelling at a very low speed at the time of the accident. BRASS BAND.

The Manaia Municipal Brass Band, under Conductor J. A. G. Cosgrove, gave a sacred concert at the school ground at Kapuni on Sunday afternoon. Considering the inclemency of the weather there was a fair attendance of the public, and the various items, which were well played, were much appreciated. The band is showing marked improvement. It is the intention of the band to give several sacred programmes in the Waimate district at an early date.
