LAND TRANSFERS.

RECORD OF BUSINESS. LAST MAY A HEAVY MONTH. The value of the lands transfers dealt- with in New Zealand, under the Land Transfer Act, in the month of May, 1925, was greater than for any other month in the past two years. Two thousand one hundred and ninetyfive town and suburban properties, valued at £1,686,257, were handled, also 949 country properties, valued at £1,971,039, making a total of Sillproperties of an aggregate value of £3,657,296. In the June Abstract of Statistics is published an interesting table of land transfers dealt with since March 31, 1923, the totals for each of the two full financial years covered being: 1923-24 —33,936 properties, valued at £33,871,249; 1924-25—34,248 properties, valued at £33,549,055. The figures present some interesting annual fluctuations, if, indeed, if be possible to generalise on the basis of but two years’ figures. January shows little activity amongst both town and country properties, but the latter show a speedy recovery during February and the former during March. April is low throughout, followed by a sharp recovery in May. In each of the two years covered, country properties showed high figures in August, and the total consideration in connection with December country transactions was also high in both years.
