HUNTING.

(By Yoicks Over). On Wednesday hounds met at Air J. Russell’s, Sutherland Road, Alanaia. Despite the bostcrous weather, there was a good field, and the lio-unds ran well. The first run of the afternoon, through Messrs Russell’s, CotteriU's Young’s and Ryan’s, was perhaps the fastest and best run this season, at any. rate, in the northern end ol the chib’s territory. Over the rich pasture land, springy with its thick turl, horses, hounds and horn all blended- to make a capita! limiting scene than which Old England has nothing more ling to offer. The Wniokura stream was swollen with the rains, hut the hounds crossed twice, a kill resulting in Air. J. .J. Patterson’s property. Tlie field could not follow the hounds across the flooded Wniokura. The hunt was most enjoyable, and, a'tliongli a live-day, Air. and Airs. Russell hospitably entertained members and their friends. Air. Al. .1 Crocker (deputy-master) in returning the club's thanks to our host of the clay, stated that in Air. Russell the chili had a keen enthusiast lor hunting, and it was an hoiiom to the c-lub that he and his neighbours should have thrown their country open to the club twice this season. Indeed, said tlie deputy-master, theirs was a spirit that everywhere seemed to prevail with the supporters of hunting. Three /hearty cheers were then given for ATr. and Airs. Russell and neighbours. Air. Russe’l, in . response, stated that the club was already welcome to his country, and he thought- he could speak for his neighbours’ country also. He said that he would in future years offer his country to the club as a hunt in the fixtures, so greatly (could lie rely o n tlie goodwill of his neighbours towards tlie club.

Mr. Cotterill. one of the neighbours, endorsed Air. Russell s remarks concerning tlie country being available. Hunting folk may look forward therefore to Air. J. Russell's hunt next year.
