(Game continuing.) INTER-COLLEGE MATCH. NEW PLYMOUTH DEFEATS HAWERA. AFTER A FAST GAME. The curtain raiser to the representative match was full of interest. In the first spell Hawera showed supremacy, but the second half saw a. great improvement on the _p;*»'t of the visitors, who scored three further tries to their previous one, which leit the game at the final: New Plvmouth 12, Hawera 9.

The play, without being brilliant, was very fast, and both teams showed the result of good training. The ground was heavy and the ball greasy, which impeded passing rushes, but nevertheless some good handling of the bali vva's witnessed. Hawera attacked solidly in the first spell, and their three tries were due to good and hard work, but in the second spell, v/he n the visitors became used to the ground, they made use of the small amount in their favour due to.extra weight. For the visitors Wilkins distinguished himself and Walshe worked like a trojan for the home teafti. Goal kicking was poor, not one of the seven tries being converted, but the state of the ball no doubt had something to do with this. Mr.' McNae was the referee.
