FLOODS ON EAST COAST

Rain continued to fall heavily yesterday, and last night the rivers were again rising and all communications by road cut off. Large areas of-country are under water’and many homesteads are flooded, the marooned families having to he rescued by boats. Road and railway lines have been damaged. The Waimana sattlenient is in a had position, the .river threatening, to eat a fresh course across some farms. A boat is stationed at Whakatane bridge to ferry the people across.
SOUTHLAND' WANTS WATER
INVERCARGILL, June 29
Southland is 'experiencing an extremely fine winter, and farmers want rain. On Saturday, fourteen degrees of frost were recorded and a large number of taps burst, <jvcr a million and a half gallons of water being lost. In order to conserve the supply the water had to'be cut off in some parts of the town. ■ •
