HIGH STANDARD MAINTAINED.

MOUNT EGMONT FEATURED. Ail outstanding feature in the history of South Taranaki is the annual winter show at Hawera, a fixture which has very wide interests, and therefore attracts competitors in the various sections from all over the Dominion. Naturally, therefore, the competition is very keen, and this leads always to a maintenance of a high standard standard throughout. In a dairying district such as this the section, for dairy produce always commands keen interest and is ol tiie greatest practical value, for several or the classes show the produce as it leaves for the Old Country. The valuable challenge cups. too. always serve to bring in entries from "the leading factories'all over the Dominion. Each year a special feature is associated with the show, and this year the chosen feature was the association of Mount Egmont with Hawera and South Taranaki. And; to complete the value of this association of the district with the mountain a tour has been arranged to Dawson Falls, in which the delegates of the N.D.A.. who are this year having their annual meeting in Hawera, will be taken" to see ‘•Taranaki’s heritage.” ’ It will be a great medium of publicity for the mountain and Dawson Falls, and, indeed, for South Taranaki in general. In amplification of the Mount Egmont feature the (Government Publicity Department- sent up a photographer, who went no to Dawson Falls and took a number of excellent photographs of the mountain, the mountain house, and the country to be seen en route, wit a snaps of the road and bush. The Department also sent up a wonderful collection of photographs of various parts of the Dominion, forming an admirable record cf the beauties and attractions. the sport and the business, and practically fvery phase of the life of the Dominion. This will be the greatest thing of its kind ever seen at any show. ( f PUBLIC SCHOOLS. I The schools division embraces Hoys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Chios exhibits, the competition of schools on artorestation —a most useful and practical interest for students —and ail the essaywriting. nap-drawing and modelling classes wlicit every year create such intense interest among the schools. In the public schools’ gardens division is awarded for competition the valuable James aid Gillma n challenge shield, and it isfremarkable that so far Okaiawa has won it every year. For tl.e afforestation work Messrs George gyirie and Co.. Ltd., donated a fine shield, open to Taranaki primary schools, and this draws each year keen competition. It is.a feature of great educational interest. TEE GENERAL DISPLAY.

The luge concrete buildings, covering ov<r an acre, are excellently arranged for a big show. The halls ar© artistically and lavishly dec-oraxed, anci are lit. at nights by powerful lights, which make the whole building a blaze of light. The stalls are all neatly set out, ana firms rie with one another to see that the display made by them is worthy or the show and a credit to themselves. ACCLIMATISATION EXHIBIT. Special mention must he made of the very fine display made by the energetic committee of the Hawera Acclimatisation Society. Each year it has had an exhibit that attracted huge crowds and this year it has put its two rooms into one and given a display th.at will probably not be equaled by any similar society in the Dominion.
