PARLIAMENT
OPENS TO-DAY. ■... .. - - GOVERNMENT’S PROSPECTS. FUSION ISSUE. (By Telegraph —Special .to Star.) WELLINGTON, June 24. The final session of the present Parliament opens to-day-with unusual interesting formalities, including the . ciaYng-iii of Mr McLennan," the nCw, me inner lor Franklin, who,- m accord-'-anee with custom, will be asked 'to—move the Acidress-m-Reply. .. The seconder has not yet been selected. Botn Houses will on Friday deal with condolence motions, and will adjourn immediately afterwards. An Imprest Supply Bill must -be passed before the end of : the month, and it is expected this will be introduced when Parliament resumes on Tuesday. Party meetings have not been- fixed, as the Whips are awaiting the arrival of the full muster of members. Old Hands in parliamentary affairs predict that, no matter how.the fusion discussion ends, the House,, will shape much as in the former "sessions of the present Parliament, and that Mr Coates will be able to command a majority sufficient to deal with a fair legislative programme. Nobody is anxious to'pre•jipitate a, general election before Parliament closely approaches the end of - its normal term.
