THE LICENSING ISSUE.

QUESTIONS TO CANDIDATES

TRADE TAKING ACTION. (.BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, June 23. At a meeting of the Dominion executive of the N.Z. Licensing Reform. Association, the following resolution was carried: That the N.Z. Licensing Reform Association calls public attention to the vicious political principle involved in the action of the prohibition party in attempting to secure the control of Parliament by obtaining pledgees from candidates to carry out their dictates and organising for the return of such judged candidates regardless of the real political issues of the Dominion ; that while regretting being forced into the political field, the Licensing Reform Association recognises its responsibility to the moderate people of New Zealand, and announces its determination to resist this attempt to filch away their rights by every means in its power; that while seeking no pledges itself, and asking only that the people’s representatives in Parliament shall have a free hand to deal with licensing legislation in the interests of the people as a whole, the New Zealand Licensing Reform Association declares its determination to oppose the return of any candidate who pledges himself to the prohibition party, and as a first step towards organisation for this purpose will proceed to set up vigilance committees in every electorate throughout the Dominion.
