NO SURPLUS.

N.S.W. TREASURY. STATEMENT BY NEW PREMIER. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION"—COPViM <i III" (Received June 20, 11.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 20. Mr Lang, the new Premier, states that there will be no surplus in the New South Wales finances. He said his enquiries made it clear that if the Treasury prepared its accounts in the way a honourable business man would, no surplus could be shown. . Various statements had been made that the Fuller Government was leaving behind a surplus of half a million. Any business can show a surplus if it omits from its accounts sufficient liabilities, he said. The Government proposes to introduce a Bill to the present Parliament to abolish the death penalty.
