PATEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The first annual dance of the Patea Amateur Athletic Club, , held on Tuesday, was a pronounced success, and was well attended. During the evening the cuj) awarded for the most points gained during the season in the evening runs was presented to Mr E. Cousins, the winner, by his Worship the Mayor, who congratulated him on his success. The Patea Fire Brigade is holding a street day on Saturday next to wind up the recent bazaar. Donations of produce, etc., will be thankfully received. A special meeting of the Patea Borough Council was held on Monday to deal with the question of the property formerly leased to F. Beetham. The file in connection with the matter was read, and his Worship explained that re-entry would have been made last year only Beetham had promised to carry out the conditions of the lease. The council, no doubt, had been too lenient with the tenant. Cr Christensen thought the council had acquiesced in the delay in effecting repairs by not replying to Beetham’s letter of August, 1924. He was also under the impression that before re-entry a notice had to he affixed to the property as well as serving notice on the lessee. His Worship said he had been informed by the council’s solicitors that such was not the case. Everything had been done in accordance with legal advice. After further discussion Cr Christensen moved: “That the council re-enter on the property on the grounds of a breach of covenant other than the nonpayment of rent.” Seconded by Cr Thomson and carried. FOOTBALL.
