OPERA HOUSE. “TROUBLES OF. A BRIDE.” “Troubles of a Bride,” a William Fox special photoplay, opened at the Opera Houes last night for a two-night season. Without doubt this is one of the most ambitious melodrama produced for the screen, and one which must have cost a large sum of money to complete. Mildred June and Robert Agnew have the leading roles, and the “Perils of Pauline” are tame in comparison with what these two young thespians are asked to perform. OPERA. HOUSE. GLOAMING v. THE HAWK. To-morrow (Friday evening) the management will screen for local patrons the classic struggle between 'Gloaming and The Hawk at Napier. An excellent result of the race has been secured. Claire "Windsor plays the lead in “Born Rich,” ai First National picture showing also to-morrow evening. The story .is laid in New York society circles, and* shows what the idle rich, in its ambition to drain life of the last drop of pleasure, in the mad pursuit of new sensations.' will go 1 to. The settings are magnificent, and the dressing superb. LADIES ’ PIPE BAND. '■ VISIT TO HAWERA. One. of the leading public entertainers of Australia, after listening to a performance of the famous Australian Ladies’ Pipe Band, said they were ‘‘the world’s greatest novelty.” These 'sentiments have been endorsed by public opinion, for one every occasion when the band lias appeared it has been met by crowded houses. It is interesting to note that the idea of the present world tour of the band emanated from Drum-Manor William Darwin, F.B.G-.5., who, having completed his second tour of the world since the cessation of the great war, set to work and organised on sound lines. Melbourne is the home of the band, while every State is represented except South Australia. In order to prove to tlieir own people wliat could be done on- tour, the band set. out on a .-journey through all the States of the Commonwealth, and everywhere received unstinted commendation. from the most critical writers connected with tlie Australian press. Hawera is indeed fortunate in having a visit from the Australian Lady “Kilties,” and intending patrons are requested to book at Mrs Cook’s on Saturday morning. The Hawera season opens next Tuesday evening for a two-night season.
