The International Labour Conference adopted, by 81 votes to 20, a convention prohibiting the making of bread, pastry, and other forms of confectionery by all persons, including proprietors as well as workers, during the night, the term “night 7 ’ signifying seven consecutive hours. The beginning and end of this period shall he fixed by a competent authority in each country latter consultation with the employers’ and workers’ organisations and the period shall include an interval between II o’clock at night and o o’clock in the morning, except when the climate or the season required the interval to he between 10 o’clock at night and -1 in the morning. The convention will come into force on January 1, 1027. The- convention also adopted the. classing of poisoning hv lead and poisoning by mercury and anthrax as occupational diseases. It provides for compensation to he paid for workmen who are incapacitated or whose death is caused by such diseases, such payment to be in accordance with the principle of national legislation relating to compensation for industrial accidents.
