MEAT COMMISSION.
TO-DAY’S EVI I>ENCE
SOME HEATED EXCHANGES
MR. LYSNAR AND COUNSEL. (BY TEEEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, May 27. AVhen the Meat Commission resumed to-clay, Air. Lysnar proceeded to read a number of letters which had passed between’ the Gisborne branch of the Farmers’ Union and the Minister for Agriculture. The interjection, “Why?” from Sir John Findlay, brought the remark that Vesteys had been operating to the detriment of the Dominion as a whole. Sir John Find Lay: Mainly for the glorification of Mr. Lysnar, 1 think.
Mr. Lysnar: The glorification of Mr. Lysnar is not in it. My pocket lias suffered to the extent of £20,000 as a. result of their operations. I would not have committed myself to that extent had it not been for promises of legislation that were made and not carried into effect. Many other farmers have also suffered. The remark of Sir John Findlay’s is, I think, a little out of place. Mr Lysnar then proceeded with his examination of Mr. John Fraser, general manager of the Meat Hoard. He asked him to give the commission any evidence lie had in his mi ante books regarding the Admiral Goclringtdn. Mr. Skerrett protested. He said that Mr. Lysnar made insinuations against everybody. Mr. Lysnar: 1 have been prevented from seeing the books. Mr. Skerrett replied: It seems you have no capacity for thinking Mr. Lysnar: I have an equal capacity to yours. Mr. Skerrett: I am afraid you have lost it. Mr. Lysnar said, with some heat: “You have no right to make that statement; no right at all.” Mr. Skerrett: Well, I am going to make it.
