NEW PLYMOUTH SUPREME COURT

NEW PLYMOUTH, May 25. Yesterday Alfred Stevaiis was sentenced to four months’ hard la hour for obtaining board and lodgings by false pretences. Peter Dignam, Michael Fallon, and das. Connolly, three firemen on the steamer Hur.unui, were acquitted 'on the charge of breaking and entering a stationer’s shop. They pleaded guilty to the theft of goods valued at £'lt)l ss, and were sentenced to six days’ imprisonment, which meant that they were released immediately. The Judge took into account the fact that the men had been in prison since- March I awaiting trial." Practically all the goods were recovered.
