Oakes was off work for the day, hut worked on Wednesday and Thursday. His employers gave "him an excellent character, and say he is quiet and. reliable: The couple had been' keeping company for two years, the girl being ignorant that he was married..
Oakes was remanded on a charge of murdering Miss Beacher. He appeared weak and ill, and had to be assisted from court.
