TRADE TREATY.
AUSTRALIA AND CANADA
DELAY TAKES PLACE
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT, OTTAWA, May^lS. The best informed opinion indicates that there is little like'ihood that the Australian and Canadian trade treaty will be presented lor consideration by the Canadian Parliament this session. The position in its simplest form seems to be that- Mr L. McKenzie-King’s Government is not prepared to present the treaty in its present shape for fear that the opposition may be too .powerful. ./■ There is a hone that further conces- , sions mav be obtained from the Australian Government, giving the measure a greater chance of acceptance by the Canadian Parliament. It is pointed out that this will take time, and even if Mb Ross’ mission proves successful, there is little probability that he will be able to more than begin his discussions at- Melbourne before Parliament will be nrorogued. It is expected that this will occur on or before July 1-5. The Government, on being interpolated on this question, refused to express an opinion.
