Wilkins, who has just returned from an exploring expedition in North Queensland on behalf of the British Museum, announced that he intends to lead an Antarctic expedition, and hopes to be in Antarctic waters ready for an aeroplane flight in January next. He proposes toi take two aeroplanes to the Antarctic coast, directly south of New Zealand, and fly to Grahams'and. His object is to secure information of economic value in regard to the known vast stores of coal, mineral and other wealth in Antarctic lands,
This flight wi-'l be a preliminary to a huge international scheme involving the use of specially -fitted ships for supplying daily meteorological records to all parts of the world. It is estimated that the cost of the Internationa 1 scheme will be somewhere in the vicinity of two million sterling.
