PAINTERS’ REQUIREMENTS.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER
SOME PROHIBITIONS
CBY TELEGRAPH —PHES» ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, May 19. A deputation from the Painters’ Federation waited on the Hon, G. JAnderson to place pemits of the recent conference before him. They asked for nets to be placed under seatfolds, the prohibition of the use of white lead, turpentine, and scrim, and also for amendments regarding apprenticeship and administration. Dr McKibbin, of Health Department; pointed out that no substitute foi white lead had yet been found, and no country had ever been able to abolish it. The deputation was asking New Zealand to rush in where older countries could not see their way. He agreed that the sickness attributed to lead might be traced to some of the substitutes, such as turpentine. A regulation had recently been framed on this subject. The Minister said that full investiga--tion would be made of the points raised. An amendment to the Act had already been .drafted re apprenticeship. As to white lead and scrim, their use was universal, and. the Government would have to know a good dea) more than was before them at present.
