A CHILD WITNESS.
IN THE MOUAT CASE
A MOTION DEFEATED,
(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION CHRISTCHURCH, May 19. Is it necessary that a six-year-old child should give evidence at the next trial of Mouat on a charge ot murder . J ‘The Council bf the Christian Congregations decided last night that it could not ask that question of the Crown Prosecutor, although some of the members wished it. Mrs Eva Roberts deplored the tact that a girl of six' years had given evidence at the recent murder trial. “The chi d has been associated with the court,’’ she said, “and had been surrounded with a. number of undesirable characters.’’ Mrs Roberts considered that the child would be compelled to appear again, in court, and that she wished the council to ask the Crown Prosecutor if it could be avoided. A motion to this effect was negatived.
