FATHER’S NARROW ESCAPE. . (BT TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATIONWELLINGTON, May 13. Advice from Raetihi .states fbhaijb Mrs. W. Pine and lifer nine-year-old son, Walter, were burned to death. The husband was ,a,wakened at an early hour yesterday morning and found the farmhouse afire. The flames had so strong a hold that he was unable to save his wife and soil. Three other children here away from home at the time. Mrs. Pine was the daughter of Captain Foster, a veteran Salvation Army officer, and was well known in the ' Manawatu district Her mother died a week ago.. FURTHER PARTICULARS. ' Raetiilji, May 18. Mrs. Pirie was forty-sis years of ago. The farm was situated on the Pipiriki Road, ten miles from Kaeitihi The husband was sleeping in the next room and barely escaped. The flames were all round him when he awoke and was, nnalblc to reach life fainnlv. The Paries was a well knonvn farming family in the district, and the husband! waw a, member of the Waimanno County Council; also of other public bodies. The bodies were charred beyond recognition when they were recovered. The. affair is most painful, because Mrs. Pirie’s mother was burned on Thursday.
