MANILA, May 16. At tbe Far Eastern Olympiad the Philippines defeated China at baseball 7 to nil. The Philippines also defeated China at tennis, but China defeated Japan at basket ball. The Philippines defeated Japan at volley hall. CARDIFF SPORTS. TO-MORROW—TUESJ) A V. A most interesting and attractive programme has been arranged for the annual sports gathering to-morrow (Tuesday) at Cardiff. The events include : Running, 100 yards, 220 yards, 440 yards, half mile; chopping, five events, and a number of sundry competitions. A feature of the programme will he the footballers’ relay race, four distances totalling a mile, to be run in footbal; gear and carrying a football. The entries are very good and promise keen competition in every event. The day’s outing will conclude with a social in'the hall: in the evening. HANDICAPS DECLARED. MOKOIA SPORTS. WEDNESDAY’S EVENT. Considerable public. interest is centred upon the sports gathering to be held under the auspices of the Mokoia and District Settlers’ Association at “The Pines” on Wednesday next. A full programme, including foot races, a seven-a-side football tournament, and several events for various classes of horses, has been arranged so as to ensure no delay between events. Many valuable trophies are offered as prizes, and in addition Messrs H. A. Lane and Co.’s valuable silver challenge eup will be presented for one year to the competitor gaining most points during the day. The refreshment booth is being run by the ladies, who may be relied upon to give efficient service at a very reasonable charge. The Hawera Municipal Baud has been engaged for the day, and will considerably brighten the proceedings. Everything points in Favour of a very enjoyable day, so the public would be well advised to “follow the crowd.”
