A painful accident befel a man named A. Williams, a single man employed by Messrs Campbell Bros., ol Whakamara, on Saturday evening. It appears . Mr. Williams was returning from the Hawera races by the special race train, when in leaving the train at Mokoia he got off on the wrong side before the carriages had come to a standstill. No one saw wliat occurred, but apparently lie fell, with the result that a wheel, of a passengei car passed over -us foot, severing Ins toes. , , . . The unfortunate man soon attracted attention, and'after first aid had been rendered he was placed in the van or the train and taken on to Pa tea, and thence to the hospital there. Upon inquiry to-day it was learned that he was progressing ns .favourably as could he expected.
