PUNISHMENT FOR. THEFT
tBY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION AUCKLAND, May 12. .In the charges against Munro and Flynn, counsel for the .accused asked for leniency owing to thq assistance given by them in recovering the stolen property. - Mr. Justice Alpers remarked that £705 worth of stolen goods had never been found. The charges involved a series of bold and successful thieving. Munro had entered business establishments in Auckland and Wellington anti stolen goods valued at £1213. To suggest that the punishment should be light in a case like this was unthinkable. Shopkeepers had a right to expect- that Hie law would protect, their goods. There had been systematic thieving and the mini shmenfc must be severe, Munro was sentenced to five veans and Flynn to three, yeans’ hard labour.
