In a report furnished to the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. R. F. Bollard) the keeper of the Brothers Lighthouse states: “Walking along the various tracks of The Brothers I have noticed a dozen or more tuatara lizards; their sizes averaging between Ift and 2Jft in length. I should say they are steadily increasing, as I have seen more lately than when I first came to this station. I have also seen recently one or two of the lizards’ eggs. I think that, with care, they will go on increasing.”

Passing through many tracts of country not served by the cream collector, or on farms dying off his route, even in many cases awaiting his arrival, the traveller is struck by the number of• cans of cream lying exposed to the heat of the blazing sun (says the Manawatu Times). If the Dutter control will insist upon such stands being well covered they will at least have effected one far-reaching though simple improvement. The other day (says the N.Z.. Times) a scho’ar from Silverstream .school was going homeward along the railway line when he noticed that a log had slipped from the hillside and blocked the track at a turn in the line between Silverstream station and Lie bridge. The youngster went on towards the oncoming train (2.5 p.m. from Lambton), and signalled the driver, who managed to pull up within a foot or two of the obstacle.
