DUNEDIN EXHIBITION.

TARANAKI COURT

NOTHING EFFECTIVE DONE YET

Mr. J. Sutherland Ross, the president of the South Seas Exhibition Board, Dunedin, Arrived in Hawera last evening, from the/north and left this morning for Wanganui, en route to Wellington. Mr. Ross, as the head of the Exhibition executive, is greatly concerned to find that no effective action has been taken in Taranaki to have a Tara--naki Court at the Exhibition. He is greatly impressed with Taranaki, and regard's the possibility of the province not being adequately represented as something of a calamity. , In the “Washing-up” Bill of last session statutory provision was made for local" bodies to contribute towards, collective •representation of districts at' exhibitions, and this power lias been exercised jn various parts of the Dominion. The tentative steps towards Taranaki representation made some months ago ; went as far as requesting the Mayors of New Plymouth and Hawera toi consult upon the advisableness of calling a meeting of delegates bepresenting the whole province to discuss the question. Mr. L. 0. Hooker was also consulted on the matter, at that time, and last night was interviewed by Mr. Ross, resulting i n , Mr. Hooker promising to get into communi. cation with the mayors of New Plymouth and Hawera and suggest on he. half of the Exhibition Committees, that a conference of local body delegates be called, the same to be held at Stratford as the most central location.
