A,t the half-yearly meet ins;, o f tlie Colonial Sugar Refining Company,, the chairman raid there would he a large exportable .surplus if the mills: were able to crush the cane. Most of the surplus was already sold. For the half year ended March 31 the nett profit, was £435,675, compared with £324,978 for the previous ha,sf year. The lamest earnings were made up of £281,624 from the Australian mills and refineries and other investments snlbiectfc to Federal taxation, and £1.54.051 reorelented earnings in New Zealand. Fiji and other investments not. subject to Federal taxation.
A dividend at the rate of 10 per rent, per annum for the half year absorbs £243,750 and a, bonus of five shillings ner share takes £60.938. A sum of £IOO.OOO was olneed to the reserve fund-and -the balance was carried forward.
