HAWERA OPERATIC SOCIETY.
GENERAL MEETING,
THIS SEASON’S WORK
’• At a. general meeting of members of the Hawera Operatic Society held last night, Mr H. L. Spratt, president, was in the chair, and there were present Mr J. G. Osborne (hon. secretary) and a large number of members. The chairman said the selection committee had not yet come to a decision on the opera to be performed this ..sea. son, owing mainly to the difficulties they, in common with other societies, had experienced in securing, settings and properties. Mr Osborne detailed 1 the inquiries he had made from Mr Rpyle, representing J. C. Williamson Ltd., in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, and also from Mr Foster in Nelson, and from other societies. From these inquiries, it was quite evident that every society was having'difficulty in securing operas. A number were released for performance, but there . were serious difficulties of one kind or another to be faced. After a considerable discussion, it was i resolved to set up a committee of five, consisting of Mrs M. J. Goodson, Messrs Gibson, Vinnicombe, Parkes and Burdeltin to go thoroughly into the matter and report to a meeting in fourteen days from date. A number of new members were proposed and elected, and the meeting, then adjourned. .
