Hawken, M.P., remarked that, up to the present, the dairy industry had progressed in New Zealand practically by rule of thumb' methods, and' the results achieved could only’ be described as marvellous, in the circumstances. The Minister, replying, said he had not been able to consult the Minister of Finance op the matter, ais he had * promised, to do, owing to Mr. Massey ’9 illness. He fully realised that to grant whiat was requested would oipen the door for: other-provinces to make similar requests. Nevertheless, he was prepared to consider it in the most favourable light. He would at once go into the question with his colleagues of the Cabinet. Mr Singleton, who was also present, asked what would be required, and the reply was that it would be about £IOOO for two or three years, and that the upkeep and outfit would be provided by the factories.
