OPENING OF SEASON. To-morrow "(Saturday) will be a very interesting day to- local golfeis, because it will see the opening of the season on the- new Hawer.ai golf links on the Turutur.u Road. Play wil! commence at 1.30 p.m, with a mixed four-ball bogey competition. Aiembers who have been out this week report that most of the course is in capital order, the fairways generally being very good and clean. if the weather is good, the afternoon will be most enjoyable. It isi hoped that- as many as can will be present so a.s to give the new season a good opening. Ladies are asked to bring a basket. New members aie coming in, and the following have joined the club : Messrs Hart, H. Dickie, C. Dickie, P. Bond and M. C. Brown.

There was a cold cross wind with intermittent showers and conditions were therefore most unfavourable. Despite this many good score cards were returned from among the thirtyfive who played in the qualifying round for tiie championship. 'The best cards \Ytie returned by Mrs Mac Diarmid (New Plymouth) 94 and Mrs Co linson (Palmerston North) 95. Miss L. Quin (Eltham) also qualified, securing seventh place.
