MATARIKI REDOUBT.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Your Whareroa correspondent .certainly got ia. long answer) to his query re the structure on Matariki redubt. Many, of your Tokaora correspondent’s statements, in that article are not quite correct. The board that defeated Mr. Davies had some correspondence with Miss Stathani in regard to the totems, which arrived .some considenahle time after Mr. Davies went out of office. Well, the totems arrived, and the town clerk cook delivery at the railway .station, and had them stored in the town hall for the time being; but, before the town board bad time to deal with them, these wretched totems had utterly, vanished. On inquiry being made, they were found;' as your correspondent .states, on the town clerk’s property (in a fowlliouse). • Now. 1 take it that your Tokaora correspondent, like the chairman of the town .board, would not willingly submit to anybody riding rough-shod over him. He says the summons was never served Very true; because that summons was never issued. The eummoms was not in the constable’s pocket, therefore it was not served; it was simply a hoax or bluff which served the purpose well. I admit that the constable was a level-headed man, for he knew who he had to deal with. The old veteran lost no time in returning the works of art, and the town board members did chuckle. The incident was most- amusing to residents of Normanby and district, who looked upon it as a huge joke.—l am, etc., ' ONE WHO KNOWS.
